Charlie Martyn’s village
The Village of Tequesta was incorporated on June 4, 1957 by the real estate developer Charlie Martyn, who went on to build Waterway Village and the Tequesta Country Club; an Indian mound found during excavation inspired the name. The village’s flood information points to tidal surge from hurricanes and the low elevation of many homes.
Census figures put the median year built at 1977: 31 percent of homes date from the 1960s and 27 percent from the 1970s. Forty-seven percent are single-family detached and 36 percent are in buildings of ten or more units, and 80 percent of homes are owner-occupied.

The Tequesta roof permit
The Building Department’s roof permit requirements ask for the building permit application, product approvals for all roof materials, the Palm Beach County roofing forms 100 to 400 for the roof type and an aerial image of the roof. For any property in an HOA, written HOA approval is required before the permit is issued, and applications go to review only when complete. Applications are submitted online through BS&A.
The village offers virtual inspections for roofs, with requests due by 3 p.m. the day before. Under a hurricane or tropical storm watch or warning, roof tiles stockpiled on a roof must be installed, banded and fastened, or removed.
