Hip tiles cover the sloping junction between roof planes. Their position and attachment make them a separate inspection item from the flat field of tiles. A missing or displaced piece deserves attention to the junction beneath it.
What to do next
Request photographs showing the hip and surrounding field, not only the loose piece. Ask whether the repair restores the underlying protection and attachment as well as the visible cover. Have the contractor explain how the detail fits the existing roof system.
