Standing Seam Roofs: Snap-Lock vs Mechanically Seamed
“Standing seam” covers more than one system. Perkins explains how snap-lock panels differ from mechanically seamed, hand-crimped panels, and the question to ask before signing a metal roofing contract: is it snap-lock or mechanically seamed?
Turn the system name into a contract question
This video is aimed at the decision before signing a metal roofing contract. If two proposals both use the phrase “standing seam,” ask each roofer to name the panel system and describe how it will be joined. Keep that answer with the proposal so the selected system is clear. The seam method is one part of the comparison; openings, transitions and the supporting assembly also need a defined scope. These questions help make a conversation specific without treating a short video as a design for your roof.
Questions for your project
- Does the contract identify snap-lock or mechanically seamed panels?
- What is included at roof openings and transitions?
