A core sample can help identify roof layers and conditions at a specific location. It does not automatically describe every part of a large roof. Sampling locations and the reason for taking them matter.
What to do next
Ask who will select and document the locations, what questions the samples are intended to answer, and how the roof will be restored. Keep the findings with a roof plan so future decisions can relate observations to the areas actually examined.
